As part of our EFRC research program, we will:

  • Characterize the behavior of actinide-bearing materials (phase stability and phase transformations) under the combined conditions of high pressures and temperatures in a very strong radiation field.
  • Develop a fundamental understanding of the response of nano-structured materials to extreme conditions. We will focus on studies of phase stability under equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions (for example by irradiation or pressure), and develop models that relate the response of the materials to extreme conditions to their intrinsic materials properties (e.g., composition, structure, thermochemical parameters)
  • Investigate the effects of surfaces and boundaries in nanoscale systems on the radiation response of materials.

Explore the possibilities for developing new materials that have unique properties under these extreme environments.
